Tips For Panic Attacks - How To Handle Them

The closest I have ever come to a panic attack is when I am preparing to get up in front of a group and give a speech. My muscles feel week, my mouth goes dry, I feel disoriented and confused and I feel like my stomach is going to take off on its own. I am lucky, I just think of the words of Zig Ziggler when he said, "Everyone has butterflies, the secret is getting them to fly in formation" and get out there and do it. People who suffer from panic attacks do not have that ability. They do not know if this is a one time thing or the start of a life time of panic attacks.

There are doctors and counselors that will treat your for panic attacks and I do not mean to detract from the work they do. If you find that the tips I have listed are inappropriate for you or do not work then by all means see your doctor. If you are seeing a doctor now, you might want to consider incorporating some of these tips for panic attacks into your daily patterns to supplement their work.

Exercise. Exercise can train the body to breath properly and release the body's natural chemicals to fight depression. We release endorphins with exercise and they go to work on the brain telling it, it feels better. Try to incorporate a half hour of brisk exercise into your regime each day.

Yoga. Some look at this as a form of exercise. It teaches you to relax certain muscles and helps to get oxygen to all parts of the body. Being able to acquire an adequate supply of oxygen will help reduce anxiety.

Distraction. When you feel an attack coming on try to think of something else. Turn the radio up. If in a car open the window. If at home splash water on your face. Concentrating on the panic will increase the likely hood of an attack. Thinking of something else will decrease it.

Natural food supplements. Natural food supplements are included in these tips of panic attacks not as a prescription but as a suggestion based on what has worked for other people. St John's wart has been thought for years to reduce anxiety by helping you to maintain the correct chemical balance in your brain. By the same token, Inositol, one of the B group of vitamins has been used successfully to relieve anxiety and panic attacks.

Hypnotherapy. In some cases hypnotherapy has been successful in teaching patients to relax and take control of their lives. It has also been known to teach patients to cope when faced with a panic attack.

There are many tips for panic attacks available today and these are just a few. Try them and adopt the ones that work for you as your own.
